What is the CROUS ?
The CROUS is a public institution of administrative nature under the supervision of the Ministère de l’Enseignement Supérieur et de la Recherche (higher education ministry).
The CLOUS of Mulhouse – Maison de l’Étudiant at 1 rue Werner- is part of the CROUS but in the south of Alsace. It offers the same student life service to the students of the south of Alsace.
CROUS missions
Its objective is to provide all students equal access to higher education and an equal opportunity for success, by lending support to their everyday activities.
There are 7 missions of student life services in the CROUS of Strasbourg: housing, grants, social, food service, job, international, culture.
The services are available for every student, whether French or foreign, registered in a higher education institution following initial training leading to national diplomas. (Trainings giving access to the student health insurance)
The access to these services is subject to the presentation of the student card.
Management of the CROUS
A director in charge of the execution and the preparation of the Board of Governors’ decisions manages the CROUS and ensures the proper functioning of the services.
The Recteur, Chancellier des Universités (regional education authority) chaired the Board of Governors. A student representative holds the Vice-Presidency.
Magali Dehaas has been elected by the Board of Governors of June 23rd 2008.

Seven student representatives are present in the Board of Governors.

- Grants: 32 millions Euros, 12 532 grants beneficiaries, 17 897 grant application in 2008, meaning an increase of 5,5% compared to the year before.
- Food service: 13 restaurants or cafeterias, 6 150 seats, 1 649 008 served meals, meaning an increase of 2,2% compared to the year before.
- Housing: 15 university residence halls, 5 704 beds.
- Off campus housing: 2 535 ads available on the website
- Social: 9 social workers, 5 800 interviews.
- International: 1 690 beds for individual foreign students (outside DSE procedure; 30 % of the global capacity), 2,8 millions Euros spent for the French government grants.
